Hallway Entrance
The planes of the hallway are accented by adaptations of 18th century Japanese painting done on canvas. The walls are hand done in striee, remarkable because of the long runs of this delicate finish.
Powder Room
Hand-reposed copper panels of sea creatures accent the mirror and vanity. The sconces are hand-blown glass in a shell motif held by lot-wax cast bronze coral. The "Grotto" faucet is gilded bronze cast as a rocky cave containing a small statue of the Buddha. All of the above were created, designed by John Landrum Bryant and were constructed under his close supervision.
The Peacock Bedroom Handles
JLB conceived of a pair of handles for a double door set. The handles were forged in bronze to create the effect of an elephant s ears on its head when the doors are closed.
The Peacock Bedroom
The wall upholstery in violet silk that John Landrum Bryant designed with falling peacock feathers embroidered in platinum wrapped thread. Each feather is handcrafted and is unique in design. He continued the peacock motif with the chandelier formed by two peacock forms cast in plaster and a pair of his signature "Peacock" chairs. The "Wings of Repose" bed took two years from conception to delivery. After investigating several approaches JLB created a small model, and with the help of then emerging 3D computer technology. A full sized model was later cast in aluminum and finished in baked enamel. JLB also designed a "Picket fence" side table to complement the bed. On the left are seven rare silver leaf Art Deco panels done by A. A. Rateau for a townhouse in Paris.
The Peacock Bedroom Door Levers
JLB created lost wax cast bronze peacock door levers for the Peacock Bedroom. This lever is shown attached to one of the Rateau Art Deco panels.
The Mural
JLB designed a wonderful mural which covered the walls and ceiling of a large entrance hall of a former apartment. While most of it had to be stored, he used this center panel for the dining room. The mural was done in glazes of beige and crimson over silver leaf mounted on canvas. The table is a slab of a type of rare stone similar red porhfery. The fruitwood chairs are early 19th century Italian. The "Kow-Towing" figure on the table is the large known from the Tang Dynasty.
Library Room
The Library looking into the adjoining bedroom. By the chair is one of JLB s design, iconic "Curved Alligator" lost wax cast bronze side tables. The carpet was custom woven to unify the two spaces.
Coral Rock Top
A four inch slab of coral rock is the top for my "Octopus on the Mound" faucet. It is lost wax cast bronze gilded in antique gold.
Bedroom Wall
A wall of the bedroom. The window covers are a matching pair of phoenix, left and right, arising from the flames. Each panel was created full size in clay and cast in clear acrylic. Some of a collection of ancient Chinese art is shown in the cabinet. One of my jewelry creations, a Phoenix necklace of diamonds, platinum and rubies, is shown in the lower right.
Bedroom Wall Alternate View
In the background, John Landrum Bryant s design the "Dancing Bamboo" plaster lamps flank the "Shore Grass" sofa. A large Tang Dynasty camel and rider is displayed on stylized "Three Bamboo Trees" glass top table. All of which are JLB s designs. The rug is an early 20th century Tabriz.
